Let's say you go to start your Ford vehicle early on a cold morning, and you find the battery is unfortunately dead. What is there to do? You can have the vehicle towed to our service center; or, you can jump the battery and get it boosted to run again.
Our service center at Schafer Ford invite you to learn how you can get your Ford vehicle battery boosted for extended life and be safe while doing it.
Boosting Your Dead Battery
To properly boost your battery in the Cumberland, MD area, the first thing you're going to need to do is to have another vehicle with a healthy vehicle battery and park the two vehicles close together. Open both hoods and find where the batteries are located. If there is a battery cover present, remove the cover to expose the terminals.
If you notice any form of corrosion around the batteries, take the time to wipe it off safely. After removing the corrosion, take a heavy-duty set of battery cables and connect the positive clamp to the positive terminal and negative clamp on the negative terminal on first the second vehicle and you're your vehicle.
With the clamps in place, Meyersville PA drivers must ensure the cables are clear of any engine components. Once done, they can start the second vehicle. It's good to let the engine run for seven minutes to let the voltage into a dead battery.
After the time has elapsed, you can go ahead and start up your vehicle to make sure the transfer is working. It's a good idea to make sure no light or other features that draw power are on. Once you have the engine running, disconnect the cables in reverse order.
Salisbury, PA drivers should let their engine run for several minutes before heading out for a drive. If you stop somewhere after going on a long drive and your vehicle won't restart again, we strongly encourage you to bring it by our service center to have it checked out.
